We have been retained by a leading Electrical company in the UAE to find an internationally proven manufacturer of Transformers as a techno commercial collaborator for a new facility for Re-Engineering of Power and Distribution Transformers in the Middle East.

Background

The power sector in the middle east region will involve about US$ 50 billion of investment in new power generating capacity. The GCC alone will add 76.8 GW of capacity for power generation between 2016 and 2020 (pan-Arab energy investment bank Apicorp estimates). According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), GCC electricity consumption is expected to reach 856 terawatt-hours by 2020, requiring 100 GW of additional power over the next 10 years to meet the demand. As the demand increases, the GCC countries are also experiencing significant requirements for power sector infrastructure development.

Considering the present see saw of the Oil price, utilities and the end users, in the region will  try to save every dollar they can to optimize the limited resources. Increasing the product life cycle of existing capital equipment will play a major role in limiting the investment in new equipment. At the same time, just about any back yard facility involved in general ‘repair or refurbishing’ of the equipment will not help. What will be needed is robust re-engineering of the equipment, making use of the latest technology and materials to give a new lease of life to the equipment with a warranty of about the same life as a new equipment.
